The Men of the 82nd
This combat
unit of 700 men, assigned to the XIX Corps, 1st and 9th Armies, fought with
distinction throughout the European
Campaign, from Omaha Beach in June 1944 to Germany's Elbe River in may
1945.This Web site is intended to provide a
historical perspective on the Battalion's WWII mission and to keep members up to date on activities of
the Battalion Association.

With Sadness in our hearts!

Jack
Gallagher Sr., a charter member of the 82nd Association passed away
November 30, 2011. Jack was proud of his service to the
battalion and had a friend in every member of the Association. Always
pleasant with a definite Brooklyn/Irish accent. He was equally proud of
his family's participation in the Association.
Our memories of Jack Jack Gallagher will linger in our hearts and mind.

Malcolm
Goodale passed away December 6, at his home. His Wife Barbara and
his children were present. Mal and Barbara attended many of
the Association reunions. We especially enjoyed hearing his story about
he and his boyhood chum, Bill Preston ...how they joined the army
together, although in different Companies and were wounded at
different times, finally landed together in a stateside
hospital and were discharged at the same time.
Mac, you are in the hearts and minds of those of us still on this side!

Former Commander, Bob Fugler passed
away December 10, 2011. Bob was the First Sergeant of Company B and
served two terms as our Association Commander. Bob was a long
time employee of the Kodak Company in Rochester, N. Y. In recent years
he and his wife Annelies took up residence in Fullerton California.
Bob , thank you for your leadership and your friendship
Now rest in Peace with God |
In God's hands now - rest in peace my friends !

Reunion News!
The 2011
Reunion of the 82nd was held in Oneonta, New York. which is just a few miles
from The Baseball Hall of Fame at Cooperstown. The Hall was, of course, the
main attraction of this years reunion which was presented to us by our
siblings....all we old duffers had to do was enjoy! Mike Gallagher and his
family tended to the facility arrangements and Alan Husted took care of the
newsletter and promotion of the event. The other Husted boys along with the
Gallaghers teamed up to make sure the event went smoothly...and it
did!
We seated about 35 all together at the banquet. The
full story of this, our 28th annual reunion, can be found on on the news
page....

World
war II was a traumatic time for those who served. The servicemen who
returned carried with them the personal experiences of war.
Millions of stories emerged - most will go untold!
With this website we have attempted to present, not only the history of this
battalion with some personal experience accounts, but to present the larger
picture of the war in Europe.
History has shown that wars usually evolve over a period of time with
government , or as in many cases, individuals who seek power at the expense of others.
With this in mind we begin with the "Seeds of War" .....how WWII began as the ashes of WW1 were cooling!.
